If one needs money they’re able to sell their rice in September (rice that is harvested in October), but at a disadvantageous price. There are primarily three people who lend (money): Isaac and Malvicio Valdez and Arcadio Diego. Servín does not lend. Arcadio lends to many people. He lent $1000 to Juan Ortela. People also come from Piedra de Amolar, the shopkeeper Donoto Servero, among others.

People can borrow money on terms of one week, one month, or one year. “He who has, lends” (“El que tiene, presta”). Some people go to Ixcatlan to borrow money from Primo Aguirre, Próspero Gómez, et al. “Little Rabbit” (“El Conejito”) lends to some friends. A person burrows not only in anticipation of the harvest, but also if that person has a little pig that he’d be able to sell when it gets big.

Last year Ambrosio Jiménez (a cousin) borrowed $1,000 from Arcadio at 10% interest per month. Now he owes $1,500. Ignacio Diego, Arcadio’s nephew, also lends. Pablino, Antonio, Leonardo Ronquillo, and Servín do not lend. Nicolás Morales and Castro Virgen in Ixcatlán make loans, but people prefer to borrow from their friends in San Martín.
